AUDITIONS SCHEDULED FOR LIFEHOUSE THEATER’S NEW ORIGINAL MUSICAL “SENSE AND SENSIBILITY”

Open auditions for LifeHouse Theater’s new musical “Sense and Sensibility” will be Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at LifeHouse Theater, 1135 N. Church Street, Redlands.
Auditions will be held on a first come-first served basis. All are welcome and roles are open for men and women. Men are especially encouraged to audition. Those auditioning should bring a theatrical resume and a recent photo to leave with the audition panel. Those without a photo may have a picture taken at the auditions for a $2 fee.
Auditioners should also bring their own sheet music in the preferred key, and be prepared to sing a short selection of about 16 measures. A pianist will be provided but will not be able to transpose any sheet music. Auditions with CDs will not be accepted. Those without sheet music will be asked to sing “Happy Birthday” with the accompanist.
“Sense and Sensibility” opens Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 7:30 PM and will continue on weekends through May 13, 2012. Performances are Fridays at 7:30 PM, Saturdays at 2:15 PM (except Opening Night) and 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:15 PM. In addition to the weekend performances, there will be a special weekday performance on Thursday, May 10 at 7:30 PM.
Jane Austen’s classic is cleverly retold in this new musical romance. Can love find a way to transcend class, status and reputation? Or will hardship thwart a happy ending for sisters Elinor, who is “all sense,” and Marianne, who is “all sensibility?”
List of Roles Available
Please Note: the age of each character is as stated or surmised by Austen's original work but casting
will be determined relative to the other characters and the expected type set forth by many of the popular
movies that set an expectation in audience goers minds.
Elinor Dashwood (age 19) - Elinor is the oldest daughter of Mrs. Dashwood. She is very responsible, in control of her emotions and seems more mature in most instances than even her mother.
Marianne Dashwood (age 17) - Marianne is the younger sister of Elinor and her opposite in many ways. She is headstrong and irresponsible, speaks her mind despite social conventions; and is prone to depression. She is also passionate and romantic.
Margaret Dashwood (age 12) - Margaret is the youngest Dashwood sister. She is slightly tomboyish, and loves to tag along with her older sisters.
Mrs. Dashwood (age 40) - Mrs. Dashwood’s husband has just died, leaving her a widow and has gone from extreme wealth to extreme poverty overnight. She has three daughters to provide for and seeks to help her older two find husbands.
John Dashwood (age 25) - John makes a promise to his dying father that he’ll help his stepmother and half sisters. Unfortunately, he is also afraid of his wife, who convinces him to go back on his word.
Fanny Dashwood (age 20) - She is hostile, manipulative, and thinks herself above everyone around her. She is wealthy, but greedy.
Edward Ferrars (age 22) - Instead of being important and successful, he would rather live a simple and quiet life. He is kind, compassionate and very shy and awkward.
Sir John Middleton (age 40) - He is a widower and very eccentric and even ridiculous when spending time around Mrs. Jennings.
Mrs. Jennings (age 55) - Mrs. Jennings is nosy and always gets the scoop.
Colonel Brandon (age 35) - He is kind but quiet, almost brooding.
Wiloughby (age 20) - He is dashing, charming and causes everyone to like him… except Brandon.
Lucy Steele (age 19) - Lucy is charming and seemingly perfect, but also manipulative and sly.
Anne Steele (age 20) - Anne is sister to Lucy. She is very talkative and sometimes says too much.
Robert Ferrars (age 21) - Robert is Edward’s younger brother. He is arrogant, sarcastic and behaves much like his sister, Fanny.
Dear Joseph Auditioner:
Thank you for taking time to audition for "Joseph." All of us on the audition committee are grateful for the honor of your presence and the time you invested in being with us to make a memorable audition presentation.
As you know from the comments at the auditions, "Joseph" script has its own unique framework and particular demands. Therefore, competition is keen --- Especially when one considers that so many of those who auditioned were extremely talented young people.
We count you as among the talented! And we are also humbled by how many truly talented people there are in the Inland Empire. The high caliber of audition talent present is most impressive and we consider it a privilege that you took time and made preparations to be with us and present your own best effort.
Be assured that your efforts and patience are most appreciated. All of us on the audition panel want to extend to you, in as personal a manner as this website permits, our own special thanks. While obvious logistical constraints prevent our writing to you personally, we want you to know we gave your audition careful consideration.
Please know that many factors go into the final selection – and such factors have absolutely no bearing on your intrinsic worth as a person or your basic talent as a performer. In fact, some factors that go into casting are simply beyond your (and our) control, regardless of the caliber of the audition: such factors as character types required by the script, and mundane matters such as age ranges needed, stage space, heights of certain performers, the mix of individuals needed for certain scenes, etc.
It has been an honor to have you participate in our audition process. Our next auditions will be February 2nd, 2012 for
"Sense and Sensibility." We hope you will all consider auditioning again in the future.
